For K-1 Purple:

Play Hard - Meyer Rebibo. Meyer really did a great job of dribbling the ball down the field and nearly scored a goal. Great effort!

Play Smart - Isaac Kushnir. Isaac did not rush into the pack of kids huddling around the ball and instead stayed back and was able to get the ball in many instances. Nice job of reading the game!

Mensch Award: Jacob Nichols. Jacob really did a great job as goalie and did not get discouraged by the overwhelming number of shots on goal. Way to hang in there Jacob!

The play hard award goes to Coby Melkin, he scored our only goal for the week plus he played every position.

The play Smart award goes to Joshua Straus. When he realized that he was not being effective on offense he went to play goalie.

Purple K1

Play hard - Meir Rebibo. Meir had some incredible energy on the field and didn't let the weather slow him down at all.

Play Smart - Benny Marguiles. Benny made some passes and really moved the ball down the field well.

Mensch - The entire purple team. These guys were far outnumbered by the other team but they were still willing to play an official game against the other side.

BK1 Silver

Play Hard – Saadya Levit. We were down 3-0 in the first 2 minutes before Saadya was on the field. After that they only scored one more time; twice according to the ref. ;-)

Play Smart – Eitan Berman. Eitan scored his first ever, second ever, and THIRD ever goals yesterday. He stayed wide from the pack and moved the ball past defenders on each of his goals.

Mentsch – Yisrael Starkman. Yisrael played the position of goalie – in the cold and rain - for much of the game but kept his spirits high and made a direction changing defensive kick late in the 2nd half.

Play Hard: Pinchas Yosef, who was really on form this week and scored two goals.

Play Smart: Michael Minsk, who after scoring two goals made several chances for others to score, two of which were converted into goals. Remember you get credit for the assists as well as the goals.

Be a Mench: Benjamin Winters, who despite being pushed around, tripped up and shoved into the mud several times, got up and carried on playing.

This week's Play Hard, Play Smart and Be a Mench awards goes to a player who has not been singled out for an award before today - Natan Winter. Natan played hard, defending dribbling the ball out of trouble, he played smart - with some great passes, including an amazing play that set up the first goal - and he was a Mench the way he passed and backed up the other players. Great play Natan.

BK1 Blue

The Play Hard award goes to Aryeh Miller, who really got stuck in this week, tackled, passed and played the best we've seen all season. Good job Aryeh.

The Play Smart award goes to Akiva Jacobs and Pinchas Yosef. You both played the best we've seen this season, both made beautiful assists that led to goals - and that is the smart thing to do.

The be a Mench award goes to Ben Zatman and Michael Minsk. After scoring two goals each, you both turned your attention to passing, making the room and creating the chances for others to score. Congratulations.

BK1 Blue/Red Scrimmage

Post by admin »

Beautiful weather and beautiful soccer go together, and that is what we saw when the blue/green teams scrimaged as blue against red. I have no idea what the final score was, but congratulations to everyone who scored.

First of all, the "Red Team" Mench awards go to Benjy and Joey Sussman, both of whom we keen to get up and join in a scrimage after Green's first half loss. As everyone on the blue team knows from experience, its hard to get up and continue playing after you've been beaten. Both Benjy and Joey did it with such grace, maturity and enthusiasm that their Mench award is well deserved.

The "red team" play smart award goes to Benjy Sussman. He did an amazing job getting into a useful position, receiving passes and taking the ball down the field. being in the right place at the right time in soccer is one of the smartest things you can do.

The "red team" play hard award goes to Benjamin Winters. Despite getting knocked around by his former 'friends' on the "blue team", he got up and kept on going and played hard right to the end.

The "blue team" mench award goes to Pinchas Yosef, who continues to show his form and made some amazing passes and plays during the second half scrimmage.

The "blue team" play smart award goes to Natan Winter, who did a great job cleaning up in defense, and dribbling and passing the ball upfield for others.

The "blue team" play hard award goes to Michael Minsk, who was getting involved all over the place and scored some good goals.
