Well today was the start of our season. We had 5 boys who showed up. I was very proud of the boys. They all played a great game even though they lost. We play a very strong team today that had all of their players there. Our boys did not get discouraged when the other team was scoring.

Smart: The highlight of the game was when Noam Roth cut off a goal kick and then put the ball right into the goal. Noam Roth gets the play smart award for the game.

Hard: Yosef Brody played many position and really kept going. He made some great saves as goalie and when on the field cut of some other plays. He gets the play hard award for the game.

Mensch: The mensch award goes to the Noam Roth, Yosef Brody, Ilan Cohen, Ezra Tuchband and Noam Straus. As I said before these guys played with their hearts today and did not complain once. Keep up the hard work.

Play Hard Benji Wilbur 3 goals, great efficient play

Play Smart Zachary Winters 4 goals, fantastic at finishing

Be a Mensch The entire team-The players that had scored focused in the 2nd half on passing to their teammates that had not yet scored. Even at a young age, the kids realized how important this effort was and some of the boys gave up easy shots and instead passed of to other teammates. It's only the first week, but I am so proud of these kids and they have already shown that they are a wonderful team.

Scoring
Zachary Winters 4 Goals
Benji Wilbur 3 Goals
Jake Ely 2 Goals
Raanan Glashofer 1 Goal
Yoni Eisen 1 Goal

Several players played well:

Eliezer Eizenstat – Great midfield play. He was critical to our transition game. i.e. Taking the ball from the opponent and moving from defense to offense.
Sammy Levitt – 2 Goals and was heavily involved in numerous other scoring opportunities. Critical to our offense.
Gavriel Yaakov Bernstein – Took his job very seriously as a forward. Was asked to score goals and scored one goal and had numerous shots.
Shlomo Starkman – Took his job very seriously as a defender. Was asked to not let the other team score and was persistent and effective in this task.

And, we had several Award Winners:

Play Hard – Naftali Lipman – The kid was everywhere. There is no player on our team, and quite possibly the league, who more naturally did his job, and did it well, and then happily took more responsibility onto his plate.

Play Smart – Benny Klein – Hands-down, Benny had the most creative passes and the most creative combinations of passes.

Mensch Award – Eli Soumekhian and Ezra Dayanim for pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones. Both players were asked to take risks that they weren’t necessarily comfortable with and both fought their personal nature and inclination and allowed themselves to have the experience. This showed enormous maturity.

What I great game today the team had. A win from being down 4-1. I am very proud of the boys. They did not get down when they were down by 3 goals. They turned it around and started to score goals.

Play Hard: The big producer of goals was Justin Galitzer. He had 3 goals and 2 assists. That earned him the work hard award along with Sam Glick. Sam had a goal and an assist today.

Play Smart: The play smart award goes to Yosef Brody. He kept himself in a very good position at mid field today.

Mensch: I think the mensch award goes to the entire team. After the game was over they did not gloat over the win. They were happy , they lined up and congratulated the silver team on a good game. The team this week team really lived up the ideals of the hapoel. What more can a coach and parent ask for.

Play Hard - Josh Rubin Josh never stopped moving his feet near the ball, getting 2,3 and 4 kicks at times

Play Smart - Yoni Eisen Scored 2 goals and had an assist while playing on defense

Be a Mensch - Dani Offer 3 goals, made some awesome passes to teammates and most importantly, recognized that it was more important to pass to his teammates than to continue to score

Player Reports:
Ezra Dayanim – His best game thus far this season. Pushed himself in many areas and had a nice assist.

Eli Soumekhian – Was asked to score goals as a forward and had three goals and an assist. Plain and simple, he did his job well today.

Gavriel Yaakov Bernstein – Had some great runs with the ball at his feet where he beat numerous players. But, more importantly, Gavriel Yaakov did a better job of finding the open man and making the pass to the open player in the open space… which made his ability to dribble even more effective. Finished the game with a goal.

Game Awards

Play Hard – Naftali Lipman – While playing defense, Naftali got forward and had some great passes as well as scored our first goal. More than this, he hustled back each and every time and kept Blue from scoring. An impressive effort.

Play Smart – Sammy Levitt and Eliezer Eizenstat were the co-players of the game. Sammy had a goal and an assist. Yet, he did so much more. Eli had no goals nor any assists, yet he did so much more. These two boys made everything happen. If you tracked back where the play started with most every goal we scored or most every shot we took, it started with one of these two young men winning the ball and making a smart pass. Great job, boys.

Mensch Award – Benjamin Riffkin – Benji showed real maturity today. No player did a better job of using the space on the field to his advantage. Benji saw space, filled the space and waited patiently for his teammates to pass the ball to him. Similarly, he had some great runs with the ball to create his own space. Had a goal but innumerable great shots that never made it to the scorecard. Just a great game from this young man.

Tiveria Green Awards

Play Hard – Naftali Lipman – Same as the previous two weeks, while playing defense, Naftali got forward and had some great passes as well as scored our first goal. More than this, he hustled back each and every time and kept Red from scoring innumerable times. An impressive effort.

Play Smart – Sammy Levitt and Benjamin Riffkin were the Play Smart players of the game. Both had great runs, great passes and, simply, just lead the team by playing a brand of soccer that was very team-based. And, thank fully, when the team leaders play a brand of soccer that is so team-based, the other players follow suit. Great job, boys.

Mensch Award – Tsfat Red – While we were short two players, Tsfat Red was short five. None the less, they gave 100% all game and never stopped until the final whistle. Kudos to Tsfat Red.
