Soccercise Weekly Update (Spring 2008)

Soccer-cise Spring 2008 Weekly Update - Week 1

What a great group of kids! The typical first Sunday of soccer-cise involves much more crying and parent-hand-holding and... The kids did great.

Today we went through the typical soccer-cise "order" including warming-up, stretching, sprints, skill work, games and huddling-up before we leave. The skill of the day was dribbling and, don't forget... Use both feet! :)

As a special treat, we got our uniforms today. Shirts, hats and fancy wristbands.

We look froward to seeing you all next week. Rumor has it that Winnie the Pooh may be showing up!

Play Hard. Play Smart. And, Be a Mensch.

Soccer-cise Spring 2008 Weekly Update - Week 2

The kids were great this week! It's only our second Sunday of soccer-cise and the kids already look relatively comfortable, active, focused, etc.

Today we went through the typical soccer-cise "order" including warming-up, stretching, sprints, skill work, games and huddling-up before we leave. The skill of the day was passing*. Don't forget... Use both feet! :)

As a special surprise, Winnie the Pooh showed up with treats yesterday!

We look froward to seeing you all next week. Rumor has it that Tigger may be showing up!

Play Hard. Play Smart. And, Be a Mensch.

* - Parents, as an aside, we showed the kids how to pass with their instep, shoelaces, and outside of the foot. At this age, the vast majority of the kids won't be able to do this. With this said, it is important that they can at the least conceptualize the proper way to pass. In other words, don't be overly concerned if your kid isn't hitting passes with the outside of their opposite foot. Let they kids develop this skill slowly.

Soccercise (Spring 2008) Week 3 Update

Soccer-cise Spring 2008 Weekly Update - Week 3

Another great week for the kids. The skill of the day was shooting and... The kids looked great. While some kids were focused on kicking the ball with enough power to have the ball reach the goal, others were focused on "beating the goalkeeper". But in all cases, the kids were understanding the basic concepts and, now, are just working on implementation. So, keep it up! And, don't forget... Use both feet! :)

Also, in the games, the kids played great and... Scored lots of goals. :) That's what we like to see on the day we focus on shooting!

As a special treat, Tigger showed up today! Whoooo-Peeeee!

We look forward to seeing you all next week.

Play Hard. Play Smart. And, Be a Mensch.
