Hapoel B4 Travel Team - November 16, 2008

Post by admin »

Hapoel B4 Travel Team – The Hapoel Boy’s 4th Grade Travel team played a night game against La Tocadita last night at the JCC and we learned three lessons:

a. Play Hard – Over the years, we’ve played this same La Toca team several times. And, with no exception, when we work harder and “want it more” than La Toca, we experience great success. Last night, as a team, overall, La Toca worked harder than us. With this said, we had several players that worked very hard. This includes our Play Hard Player of the Game: Reuben Winston.

b. Play Smart – Man for man, we were as good if not better than La Toca. They added some new quality players to their squad and… so did we. At the least, man for man, they were marginally better than we were. None the less, as a team, they were substantially better. As a rule, it’s not the team with “the best players” that wins the game. It’s the team that comes together the most. Though, man for man, we were equal to La Toca, as a team, they play together several times per week and play on weekends while we had literally played together for the first time. They were unquestionably the better “team”. With this said, we had several players that really played a beautiful team game. Our Play Smart Player of the Game was: Ron Heifetz.

c. Be a Mensch – Despite being out hustled, despite not playing well as a team, despite being down 5-0 at halftime, we came back in the second half and contunied to play hard, play smart and be mensches. In the second half they scored one more goal on us and… We scored a goal on them. A skilful finish by Hapoel own’s Eli ShemTov. Our Mensch Player of the Game was Eli Shemtov.

Yasher Koach, boys. You played a strong team last night and never gave up. Our goal in the waning minutes of the game was just a symptom of the improvement you made as a team from the first half to the second. Yasher Koach!

From La Toca's Coach Scott

Matt --

Just wanted to thank you for putting together a great scrimmage. It is always an exciting event and a game we really look forward to.

The kids had a great time and it was fun seeing them play under the lights. Plus, no ref! Great stuff!

And as always we look forward to hosting Hapoel and continuing our great tradition.

From all of us, please let the players, coaches, and families know we really appreciate it.

Scott
